peaking - the self actualisation phase
Why people at middle age are less interested in materialistic things than truth, justice, perfection and morals etc?
Why they are attracted to spirituality and yoga or spend time in their interest and passion?
They have experienced enough stages of life and tasks, but these phases never helped them to find their true self. They struggle all their life to earn love, food, money, sex, security, respect and stability whereas, at the middle age they get to know that self-actualisation still left. Though, it is also true that passing from these stages helps a person to be self-actualized. Without passing through these stages successfully, a person can’t focus on what he or she truly is. For example – if a person is hungry, all he or she can think is ’I am hungry’. He can not focus on who he really is when he doesn’t have the proper food, water, money, security etc.
A self-actualised person is the one who maximise the realization of the true self and fulfil the potential, talent and abilities to satisfy themselves, not to prove others or to show others. Each and every person is capable of maximizing personal abilities and reaching the fullest. Knowing yourself is not limited to creativity and intellectual superstar e.g you don’t have to be a musician, artist or scientist to be a self-actualised person.
The need for self-actualisation doesn’t arise until midlife because there is a pattern in life which you have to follow. Self-exploring is the last one in that chart. It takes time to stand at the stage of being good, unique and perfect.
Anyone can explore himself or herself by following these features in life, such as- truth, goodness, beauty, unity, wholeness, aliveness, uniqueness, perfection, justice, order, simplicity, richness( not particularly money, but they should be filled with the goodness like a rich juicy fruit), playful, self-sufficient, meaningful etc.
If someone is already self-actualized then he or she can detect it by comparing himself or herself with these characteristics which are; clear perception of reality, acceptance of self, acceptance of others, acceptance of nature, simplicity, dedication to a cause, independence, need for privacy, freshness(they will perceive their environment with freshness and wonder), social interest, deep interpersonal relationship, tolerance and acceptance of other, creativeness, originality.
These people can also be knows as peakers. In fact, this is the best term for them because they feel more peak experiences than others. Peakers are more saintly and poetical than non-peakers. None-peakers are more practical and more concerned with worldly affairs. They have less friends but have deep, lasting friendship. They are tolerant, accepting, willing to learn from anyone, flexible, willing to make mistakes and accept them, independent and self-sufficient.
People who do not fulfil the need of self-actualisation, they become frustrated, low, irritated, angry and unsatisfied with their life. It doesn’t only affect them but it also affects their family and future generation. It acts as how much good seed you will plant in yourself and according to that you and your atmosphere will enjoy the flavours of your fruits. This process will take time and effort but after reaching there you will definitely enjoy the view of life. People just need to start with their inner self. Turn your eyes inward, see what’s inside into the depth and accept what is there.
I am slowling progressing to the phase of self-actualisation :)
